Lighting Up the Water Since 1981

Founded in 1981 in Salina, KS, UTEC, Inc. was started to find a better solution for attracting fish to your boat or dock other than using a Coleman lantern or Styrofoam floating light. This led to the development of the patented “Starfire II” underwater fishing light which has been the cornerstone of our business since that time. In order to expand sales of the light and to make way for new products, UTEC, Inc along with the patent rights to the Starfire II were later sold to the Brinkmann Corporation in Dallas, TX, where it became part of the Brinkmann Q-Beam product line. Fishing Lights Etc., LLC was formed shortly thereafter which continues to lead the way in innovative new lighting designs for the everyday fisherman.

While the advent of our original Starfire II, AquaStar, and Magnum Underwater “Halogen” lights changed the way fisherman caught fish since 1981, the lighting industry began to change with the introduction of high intensity LEDs. In 2010, we designed and patented our first underwater “LED” fishing lights which once again revolutionized the fishing industry and opened the doors to new lighting possibilities. After selling our lights to sporting goods retailers including Wal-Mart, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela’s for over 25 years, we decided to move more towards on-line technology. This move saved us money, which in turn allow us to lower our prices and make our lights more affordable to the everyday fisherman.
