A power inverter is an electronic device that converts direct current (DC) electricity to
alternating current (AC). These inverters are intended to be connected to a 12 volt DC power
source, such as a car battery or marine battery source. The inverter converts the 12 volts DC
provided by the source, to 110-120 volts AC for consumption by small household 110-120
volt AC appliances which consume less than 900 watts. The inverter is wired directly to the
source with included 3 ft. battery cables, and provides two North American standard NEMA
5-15 household AC electrical outlets.
Power Inverters are available from 200 watts to 6000 watts. The stated number of watts
applies to both outlets combined, not per outlet. If two appliances are plugged in, the total
combined load must be less than the stated total watt output.
Each Magnum Dock Lights required 300 watts to run. So, when purchasing an inverter
always get a unit that has more stated watts than the item(s) you will be plugging into it. For
example, to run on Magnum 300 watt Dock Light you should be using at least a 400 watt
inverter.
