It's no "SECRET" that fishing with artificial light has been around for many years.  In
the early days the most common method was to hang a lantern over the side of a boat.
Light starts a natural food chain reaction by attracting a concentration of small
microscopic animals called plankton.  Bait fish such as shad and minnows are drawn to
the light to feed on the plankton; and larger game fish move in to feed on the bait fish.
It's not uncommon to see bait fish stacked in columns 15 feet thick under the lights,
with game fish suspended directly below them.  If you've never tried fishing under the
lights, you've been missing out on some of the best fishing you'll ever experience.

Dock Lights are designed to hang vertically off the side of a Dock, Pier or Boat
by simply lowering the light about 3 feet under the surface
and then tying off the power-cord to a cleat or post.

However, if you want the light further away from the dock
you can make a PVC bracket like the one pictured below using
1.25" Schedule 40 PVC.  This will allow you to sit the light on the bottom
and still produce a 360 degree radius of light.
The frame can be cut to desired size and can be filled with sand to keep it
weighted down.  Attaching a rope to the frame allows you to pull the
light in on occasion to clean the light or replace the bulbs.
PVC base is an

Dock Lights
Many people make the mistake of letting the lights stay on all night.  You will
have better luck catching fish in and around the lights if you use a timer and only
leave them on from 4 to 6 hours after the sun goes down.  The feeding fish will
see the pattern and will be at your lights ready to eat every night.  Leaving the
lights longer than that is like leaving a bowl of food out for your pet 24/7 and
letting them eat when they want.  No eating pattern is formed and they will eat a
little now and a little whenever.  If you feed pond fish once a day at the same time
every day, they soon see the pattern and are there waiting for their food the
same time every day.  The same hold true with lights.  Once you turn them on,
the food cycle starts and the fish will be there waiting the same time every day. It
may take a few days for the fish to see the pattern, so be patient and you'll start
seeing more and more fish in the lights every night.
